Tommie Gooch

Mrs. Tommie Lois Lunsford Gooch, age 84, of Sautee Nacoochee, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026.

Tommie was born in Chatsworth, GA on December 13, 1941, to the late Thomas McKinley and Mayme Lunsford. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant son Darren Martin, ex-husband Gary Gooch and sister Nancy Carder, brother Alvin Lunsford.

Tommie is survived by her loving son Phillip and wife Susan. Grandchildren Trevor and Ashley and great-grandchildren Octavia and Emory. Also surviving are special niece and nephew Sandra Burns and Robert Lunsford. Also, special friend and caretaker Melanie Nelms.

She moved to Cleveland in 1970 to work in the school system. She received a B.S. Degree from the University of North Georgia. Then Masters and Specialist degrees from the University of Georgia.

Tommie was a teacher in North Georgia for over forty years where she worked as a teacher, media specialist and Adult Education.

Tommie especially enjoyed traveling with friends over the years and especially traveling with Phillip. After receiving her CDL with long distance hauling and visiting places all over the United States.

Tommie was a member of Mt. Yonah Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Mt. Yonah Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Doug Merck and Pastor Brian Alexander officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mt. Yonah Baptist Church 882 Asbestos Road, Cleveland, GA 30528 Phone 706-865-5044.
