Vaughn James Garrett, age 78 of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Garrett was born September 4, 1936 in Hiawassee to the late Jimmy and Vassie Taylor Garrett. Mr. Garrett was the owner of Vaughn’s cycle shop and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Vaughn was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Carl Garrett, brother, Calvin Garrett, sisters, Kate Chastain and Evie Adams. Survivors include his wife, Sharron Garrett, Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Lesa and Joey Barrett; Cleveland; Judy and Tim Barrett; Gainesville; Jody and Keith McCallister, Cleveland; Linda and Bryan Westmoreland; Sautee; daughter, Janice Dockery, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Debbie Pruitt, Cleveland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Loraine and Raymond Hallford, Clarkesville; Sue and Earl Shelnut, Cleveland; sister, Ginger Brown, Cleveland; brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Charlie Garrett, Cleveland; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Jimmy Peck, Dr. Joe Vernon and Mr. Jeff Shelnut will officiate. Interment will follow at Gateway Memory Park with the Rev. Chris Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
