Verner Mcclain Adams

Mr. Verner McClain Adams, age 93 of Sautee-Nacoochee passed away Friday April 22, 2011 at Northeast Ga Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Adams was born in Sautee-Nacoochee the son of the late Jasper Hubert and Odie York Adams. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Pauline Sims, Paul Adams, Arnold Adams Sr., Louvine Fain, Bertie Vandiver, Coleman Adams, Norman Adams and Catherine Gurley. Mr. Adams was a member and deacon of Union Baptist Church and retired from Appalachian Lumber Company in Cleveland in September 1975 as a fork lift operator. Mr. Adams served in the U.S. Army for 3 and a half years in the 174th Field Artillery Battalion World War 11, Battery “A” (Firing Battery). He participated from February 1944 Camp Bowie, TX to England, Normandy, Brittany, Brest, Rennes to Luxembourg, The Battle of the Bulge, Siegfried Line, Austria, Crossing the Prum, the Kyll and the Rhine to Victory over Germany in May 1945. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Evie Garrett Adams, Sautee-Nacoochee; daughter, Patsy Adams, Sautee-Nacoochee; brother and sister in law, Buford and Inell Adams, Cleveland; sister, Beulah Thompson, Lawrenceville; brother in law, Clarence Gurley, Sautee-Nacoochee; many other relatives and caregivers, Vaughn and Sharon Oliver Garrett, Kate Chastain, Sue Shelnut, Pat LaFontain, Pam Trotter Davis, Gay Farmer and Melanie Melavony. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday April 25, 2011 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Dave Fortner, the Rev. Guy Lee, the Rev. Wayne Turk and Mr. Jeff Shelnut will officiate. Interment will be in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Union Baptist Church building fund, 869 Preacher Campbell Rd.
