Mrs. Wilma Ledford Barrett age 77 of Cleveland passed away Thursday May 7, 2009 at her residence following a 5 year battle with breast cancer.
Mrs. Barrett, “grandmama” was born in Cleveland, Georgia on December 26, 1931, daughter of the late Henry H. Ledford and Julia Allison Ledford. She was a homemaker, a babysitter, a grandmother, a mother, a wife, a sister, an aunt, and a dear friend. Mrs. Barrett was a longtime member of Loudsville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lois Ledford Abernathy and Kate Ledford Howard.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Loy Barrett, Cleveland; son and daughter in law, Mitchell and Linda Ingram Barrett, Cleveland; grandchildren, Michele Barrett Broadwell and Neal Broadwell, Tara Barrett Broxton, all of Cleveland; great granddaughters (her Pride and Joy) Nealeigh Broadwell and Abigail Broxton; sister, Annette Ledford Underwood, Cleveland; sister and brother in law, Henrietta Ledford Herrin and John Herrin, Cornelia; numerous nieces and nephews, great and great great.
Grandmama leaves behind a long legacy of many more children, teenagers, and adults that she helped raise. Everyone call her grandmamma.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday May 10, 2009 at Loudsville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Louise Elmore, the Rev. John Mann and Dr. Doug Gilreath will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 5-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
